About
Nehru Pry is a freelance video journalist, documentary filmmaker, and fixer from Cambodia. His portfolio includes a range of topics, showcasing his versatility and dedication to journalism.
Some of his works include in-depth coverage of the environmental and social implications of a controversial dam in the Mekong Basin, investigative reports on Cambodia’s land grab crisis and advocacy for human rights through stories of former prisoners and their families in Cambodia.

Before transitioning into a full-time journalist, Nehru spent time as a translator and interpreter for academic researchers and documentary producers. This early experience laid the foundation for his storytelling journey.
In 2015, Nehru Pry worked as an Art Director Assistant on the production of “First They Killed My Father,” a film co-directed by Rithy Panh and the renowned Angelina Jolie.

Embarking on a full-time journalism career with Radio Free Asia (RFA) in 2017, Nehru faced the challenge of a forced shutdown of the Cambodia newsroom, merely seven months into his role. This event underscored the struggles faced by dissenting voices in the lead-up to the crucial 2018 national elections.

Reporting for RFA, 2017
In 2018 Nehru worked as a translator on the film set of Buoyancy, an award winning Australian drama film directed by Rodd Rathjen.
Prior to his journalism endeavors, Nehru dedicated his time to outdoor education, working closely with youths through organizations like Putney Student Travel, Ayana Tour, and Jump Foundation. During this time he built skills in logistical planning, organization, teamwork and leadership.
In 2021, Nehru was selected for the Mekong Data Journalism Fellowship where he developed skills to report effectively on the threats and potential solutions facing the Mekong River and the communities it supports, using relevant and credible data, to turn into powerful news stories.
More recently he has focussed on issues related to the environment, freedom of expression and human rights in Cambodia, working with organizations and media outlets including LICADHO, Camboja and ABC Australia. He has also supported environmental reporters with his fixer services and provides news to agencies such as The Associated Press and worked with a variety of NGOs, sharing their work.

In 2023, Nehru released a documentary exploring the Mekong flooded forest, a unique ecosystem that ensures food security and income for the local community in Cambodia. His film, examining the irregular water flow that is gradually depleting the forest’s abundance, was shown at film screenings across Cambodia and Thailand.

Nehru continues to be active within the Cambodian journalism network, sharing his knowledge through workshops and webinars and providing guidance and offering support to those new to the field. He is a member of the Overseas Press Club Cambodia (OPPC) and has guest lectured at journalism schools and conducted professional development with training programs for aspiring videographers.
